Born in Lebanon, Christian Boukaram experienced a civil war during the first part of his life. After arriving in Canada in the early 1990s, he acquired primarily an interest in music (a real passion!) before focusing towards medicine. He is fascinated by the mysteries of cancer and sees in this field an opportunity to provide meaningful assistance to those inflicted.
Examining innovative methods of cancer care
Dr Boukaram graduated from the Royal Canadian College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2006. He is involved in research, teaching and directs CROIRE, a non-profit organisation that provides psychosocial assistance to cancer patients.
Journey to the Core of Consciousness
Dr Boukaram is a medical doctor and uses radiation therapy tools in order to eradicate tumors. But when two of his close friends were diagnosed with brain tumors at a young age, he noticed an important lack of psychosocial care in the health system. As a medical doctor, his training was excellent at treating tumors, but very little attention was given to the treatment of the PERSON in whom the tumors resides. Dr Boukaram suggests a change of paradigm.
From Theory to Therapy
The study of recent scientific developments and the exploration of emotional management techniques lead him to foresee the power of self-awareness.
Inspired by the Psychiatrist David Servan-Schreiber, and with the support of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Foundation, he created a non-profit organization which provides emotional and social support to cancer patients. He also obtained his certification in hypnosis, which he practices and promotes within the Oncology milieu.
In 2011, he publishes the findings of his research and observations in Healer of Cancer: The Power of the Mind, which provides a scientific explanation of the correlation between mental and physical health using a multifactorial and biopsychosocial cancer paradigm.
In 2012, Dr. Boukaram has been nominated within the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) as Co-Chair of the Education Committee.
